Hey, gang,
I like the look of the new forums!
I had a bad motorcycle wreck on October 8th. I was riding with another 15 or so bikers on some back roads in New Hampshire. We came upon a pretty sharp right hand turn, which I either took too quickly or didn't turn sharply enough. I drifted into the opposing lane of traffic and impacted a small Toyota pickup truck. I was thrown from the bike and landed up on my left side along the road's edge. I was in a great deal of pain as you might imagine. Paramedics arrived and took me to a local hospital, where I was airlifted to UMass Medical center in Worcester.
I was in intensive care from that Saturday until the following Tuesday when I was moved to a regular. The doctors found that I had broken four ribs, my left clavicle, and had various and sundry internal injuries. Suffice it to say I consider myself very lucky to be alive. I had a visit from one of the other riders in the procession who was of a few bikes behind me when it happened. He told me that he was convinced that he was going to find my corpse when he came closer to the scene. I guess he must've been relieved when he heard me screaming and saw me writhing in pain.
I was discharged from the hospital on the 15th, and was able to demonstrate sufficient mobility to negate the need for rehabilitation. I was really happy to come straight home.
A good friend of mine brought my bike from Keene to the house on Thursday. Remarkably, damage to the bike is minor. It will need a new windshield, a new front fender and new headlight lens, but that's about it.
I'm not even sure that I'll file a claim with my insurance company for damage to the bike. I'll simply order the parts over the winter and then make the repairs myself next spring.
What happens with the bike at that point is anyone's guess. I'll have the whole winter to consider if I'll ride again.
Time will tell. My left arm's in a sling, so gaming will have to wait a bit, too.
Talk soon...

Jesus, Neil - THANK GOD you're ok!!!!!!! That sounds awful and I cannot even begin to imagine what it must have been like!
Wow glad your injuries were not too severe. Rest up and heal up man. Using long term disability from work then?
Actually, it's short-term disability. I'm headed back to work on 11/7.
Sweet good for you.
Neil, glad to hear you're still with us, buddy. Take care, get some rest, and keep us updated.
Wow Neil. Glad that you're okay and on the mend, amigo. BTW, I am back in DC, so if work brings you down this way again be sure to let me know.

Oh My God! Corky...Jesus Man! I am glad that you are alright. I have had two people I knew, lost to motor cycle accidents. I am glad you are not the third.
Rest up and get better. Come back to us and play when you are able.
Wow Neil... Glad you made it out of that with your life.
Were you wearing any gear? Not that it would have done much about the broken bones and what not... but jesus. I hope you do end up riding again, would suck to lose that. But after what you have been through, definitely understandable if you didnt hop onto a bike ever again.
Hi, Gang.
Update. Despite some pretty serious injuries, I'll be headed back to work on Monday. I have to keep the left arm in a sling for the most part, but I'm at least able to type with both hands (typing with just the right hand is a bear).
I've been sleeping in a recliner since my release from the hospital on the 15th. I'm going to give the regular bed a shot this evening. At least the oxycodone should help suppress any pain I may have.
Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm considering getting BF3, but only after I can sufficiently use the A,S,D and E keys.
Talk later!
Neil
How'd it go last night, Neil?
Hope to see ya playing with us soon.
As soon as I saw that you were hit by a Toyota, I knew you were gonna be fine. Muldoooooooooon!(tm) might be taken out by a Cadillac or a Hummer, but no foreign car is gonna do it ;)
Get better fast, man.

Final update...
I went back to work last Monday (11/7). First week back was "interesting," but my boss is allowing me to ease my way back into the swing of things.
Left arm will be in a sling for another few weeks. My thoracic follow-up indicated it's healing well, but I'll know more this coming Monday when I have an Ortho follow-up.
My Thoracic surgeon tells me the ribs are healing well. So much so that I won't have to schedule additional follow-up visits with him.
Damage to the bike is minimal; it'll need a new windshield, front fender and highway bar. I'll order the parts over the winter and fix it myself in the spring. Claudio helped me put the bike into storage a couple of weeks ago (thanks, Claudio!).
Not sure if I'll resume riding. Every time a picture of my ride comes up in my photo screensaver, I get a knot in my stomach. Remarkably, the misses is encouraging me to rethink this, as she knows how much I enjoy riding (or maybe she's thinking that a third time will be a charm
).
LOL @ Neil's 'third time will be a charm' comment.
Ouch man that sucks!!! VERY lucky!!!
My last wreck was last November, lucky for me I don't ride on the street any more. My incident was on the track, but it was at 130mph, but luckily wearing full gear!
Left me with a broken and dislocated left shoulder, 3 broken ribs, broken finger and a nice concussion.
Still debating the surgery to solve the issues of the shoulder dislocating in my sleep...
Glad to hear you're getting better!
Glad to hear you are alive brother. Take it slow and Im sure you will be back up and riding sometime again.
Hello Kitty will eat your face :P
